Farewell, Brother!

Edward John “Little Bernard” Kennedy, age 59, passed away on March 3, 2019 in Rincon, Puerto Rico. John/Johnny/Bernard or Jack, depending on when you met him, was born July 27, 1959 in Galena, IL to Ellen Ann (Kennedy) Willis and John F. “Jack” Turner. He was a veteran of the US Army, and a very colorful character; he loved to laugh, joke, and spin tall tales. John moved around a lot, meeting new people and exploring new places. Over the years, he lived in many areas including Galena, Chicago, New Orleans, Florida, California, Minnesota, and most recently, Puerto Rico.

During his time in Rincon, Puerto Rico, Jack lived through hurricane Maria and was without electricity and water for 120+ days. In the devastating aftermath, he joined a group of veterans distributing aid throughout the island. Known there as “Jack”, he left a lasting impression on the locals for being a generous albeit ornery soul, and they fulfilled his wishes by giving him a “Viking funeral” on the beach in Rincon.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Ann (Kennedy) Willis, his father, John F. “Jack” Turner, and his step-father, Robert J. Willis.

He is survived by his step-mother, Roberta (Scott) Turner of East Dubuque; his former spouse Noreen (Jeff) McDonell of Stillwater, MN; brothers, Andrew (Lynne) Willis of Hazel Green, Thomas (Marcia) Willis of Shullsburg, Robert (Tammie) Turner of Elizabeth, Joseph (Melissa) Turner of East Dubuque, and Anthony (Robin) Turner of Oak Ridge, NJ; sister, Jacqueline (Brian) Rewey of Platteville; two daughters, Ashely Kennedy of Galena and Allison Kennedy of Rincon, PR; three grandchildren, IsaBelle, Brooklin, and Ronin, and many nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of life on March 30 at Ehrler Ranch Special Event Barn on Chetlain Lane from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm where family and friends may call and reminisce with the family.
